11th July 2026.
The Akoko South East Local Government, under the purposeful leadership of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Engr. Omolehin Jude Ayegbo, has approved the immediate payment of all outstanding arrears of the "SOCIAL WELFARE GRANT TO THE AGED" across the Local Government. This major decision reflects the administration’s renewed commitment to addressing the needs of senior citizens who have contributed immensely to the growth and development of our communities over the years. The approval was made after a thorough review of the payment records and consultations with relevant stakeholders to ensure that no beneficiary is left behind. It is a deliberate step to cushion the economic challenges faced by our aged population and to restore dignity to them.
This approval specifically covers all backlogs owed to beneficiaries and will be paid up to date without any further delay or bureaucratic bottlenecks. The payment cuts across all the eleven Political Wards of Akoko South East and is targeted at every aged person duly captured in the official register of the Local Government. In line with this directive, all relevant departments and units have been instructed to commence the payment process immediately and to work round the clock to ensure prompt disbursement. This administration is determined to ensure transparency and accountability in the process so that the intended beneficiaries receive their full entitlements directly. This move also demonstrates that the welfare of the vulnerable remains a top priority of the present leadership.
Speaking on the development, Hon. Engr. Ayegbo reiterated that his administration will continue to place the welfare of the aged at the center of its policy and programs. He emphasized that the elderly deserve utmost respect, dignity, care, and consistent support after dedicating their productive years to the service of the community and the nation at large. According to him, government has a moral responsibility to ensure that senior citizens do not suffer neglect or hardship at a stage in life when they need support the most. He further assured that beyond clearing the backlog, the payment of the Social Welfare Grant will be sustained and regularized going forward. This is to prevent the accumulation of arrears and to guarantee that beneficiaries receive their stipends as and when due.
The Executive Chairman also used the opportunity to express deep appreciation to the Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for his unwavering support to Local Governments in the state. He noted that the Governor’s people-centered approach to governance and his enabling policies have made it possible for Local Governments to deliver meaningful projects and welfare programs to the grassroots. Hon. Ayegbo stressed that the synergy between the State Government and the Local Government is key to achieving inclusive development and improving the standard of living of the people. He pledged that Akoko South East will continue to align with the vision of the state government in delivering dividends of democracy to the citizens.
In conclusion, this administration remains firmly committed to inclusive governance that leaves no one behind, irrespective of age, status, or background. We believe that taking care of our aged is not just a policy, but a duty and a sign of a responsible and compassionate government. We pray that Almighty God will continue to strengthen our aged ones with sound health, peace of mind, and long life. We also pray for divine wisdom, grace, and resources for the leadership to do even more for the good people of Akoko South East Local Government.
